You’d have to live in a cave not to know something about the “fracking” controversy in the Delaware Watershed and across the Marcellus Shale region of PA and other states. But how much do you know about its concrete effects on communities in this area?
Water quality, state and local budgets, even the ability of municipalities to exercise “home rule” in the functions of basic local governance are under challenge by the gas drilling industry, with its powerful voice in Harrisburg.
Transition Cheltenham will be screening an 18 minute excerpt of the well-known documentary film, “Gasland,” by Josh Fox on January 15 followed by a presentation by Ann Dixon of Protecting Our Waters. From there, participants will move to a discussion of their concerns and how to influence this complex issue that has impacts on the quality of life and the future of so many communities.
You can join Transition Cheltenham for the first of their “Sunday Supper” series next Sunday, January 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Wyncote. They suggest bringing a dish to share, but if that’s not possible, come anyway with your questions and concerns.
