Suspect Sought in Tragic Christmas Morning Murder in Melrose Park

Early Christmas morning Cheltenham Police responded to a call reporting gun shots at a home in Melrose Park. Upon arriving at a house in the 1400 block of Beech Avenue, police officers found Robens Borno, 25, of Philadelphia, in the dining room with multiple gun shot wounds. Borno was rushed to Einstein Hospital, but emergency medical staff there were unable to revive him and he died within 30 minutes of the police response.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman announced a warrant for the arrest of Rayshon Carwheel, 24, of Philadelphia, for the murder of Borno. Carwheel is accused of killing Borno while he was wrapping Christmas presents.

Police learned that Carwheel’s former girlfriend and mother of his child broke up with him in early December and became involved in a relationship with Borno. Shortly before the shooting, Borno, his girlfriend and her mother were sitting at the dining room table of the Beech Avenue house wrapping Christmas gifts. Witnesses revealed that Carwheel and another man, Ezra Childs, appeared in the room with guns. Carwheel was seen with what appeared to be a black handgun and fired multiple shots at Borno. Carwheel was then confronted by Borno’s girlfriend and reportedly stated, “Oh, this is why you couldn’t answer the phone.”

The suspect reportedly then escaped in a gray late-model seda, which police later recovered on Old York Road in Philadelphia.

Cheltenham Police urge anyone anyone having information on the whereabouts of Carwheel to call them at 215-885-1600, ext. 499 or the Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610-278-3368. Carwheel is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
