Deadly spin

After 20 years as a spin doctor for the health insurance industry, Wendell Potter jumped off the corporate wheel. It was making him – and a lot of other people – sick.

Instead, he simply switched sides. The industry insider turned reform advocate is coming to Cheltenham Tuesday, March 15 to give his perspective on the health policy debate and, no doubt, to plug his recently released book, Deadly Spin: An Insurance Company Insider Speaks Out On How Corporate PR Is Killing Health Care And Deceiving Americans.

Sponsored by the Cheltenham Township Adult School, Potter brings his corporate background as well as more recent experience in the halls of Congress and in the media as an expert witness and commentator on the health care wars.

Wendell Potter

In testimony before a U.S. Senate committee in June 2009, he disclosed how insurance companies, in their quest for profits, engage in practices resulting in millions of Americans joining the ranks of the uninsured.

Potter’s experience has made him a notable resource for those seeking to make sense of today’s increasingly bizarre debate on health insurance reform.

The program is at the Cheltenham High School Auditorium and starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 and $10 for students. For more information, call the Cheltenham Adult School at (215) 887-1720.
