Free Bicycle Clinic at Creekside Farmers Market Sunday

If you’re going to the Creekside Farmers Market in Elkins Park this Sunday, you might want to take your bike. Not just for the usual reasons – it’s healthy, it reduces your carbon footprint and all that. You can also get some small repairs done on it and certainly plenty of advice right along with your regular shopping.

Transition Cheltenham, in partnership with Philly Electric Wheels, is sponsoring a free bike clinic at the farmers market at High School Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bike geeks will be on hand to help you tame that two-wheeled steed of yours.

For Transition Cheltenham, a citizens group intent on affecting lifestyle changes to reduce climate mitigation, bicycles are an innate low-carbon solution to local transport. Many members are stalwart pedal-pushers for all kinds of trips, and a contingent will be there to answer all your bike-related questions, including tips on bike-friendly roads in the township.

You’ll also get to meet with the fast folks at Philly Electric Wheels (or PHEW!) – bringing electric-assist bikes to the Philadelphia region. Since their move to Germantown Avenue this spring, they’re establishing themselves as Mt Airy’s destination bike shop – offering repair service for all bikes, electric and otherwise. The PHEW crew will have their toolbox ready for action. If your bike seat needs raising, or handlebars pushed back, or brakes adjusted… wheel your bike over to the Creekside Farmers Market and learn a thing or two to get you rolling into the summer.

In addition, PHEW will have demo e-bikes (no, they’re not virtual, it’s just short for electric-assist) available for test rides.
